Enjoy the indoor - outdoor life in the tropics!

LOCATION:  We are located 45 minutes south of Hilo, by Kehena Beach, on the Big Island of Hawaii.

ACCOMMODATIONS:  A private, one bedroom unit, sleeps two.

Here, in this eco-friendly environment, you can relax and feel as if you are truly at the "end of the earth! "
Experience absolute peace and quiet. If you really want to “get away from it all”; this is the place! The gentle crashing of ocean waves will lull you to sleep, and you will wake up to the songs of singing birds in the jungle.

Out here we don't have TV, telephone,* internet, microwave, air conditioning, walls, or worries!
The kitchen, dining, and shower are all "outside"! Under the shade cover of a roof, you can kick back, relax and enjoy the splendor of the tropics with no walls to block your view of the ocean, jungle, and the 1950 lava flow we live on. private outdoor shower

The unique decor is lighted hearted and fun. The completely private outdoor shower is a work of Art! An amusing tile mosaic wall commands attention. This is a delightfully whimsical place to rest.

back doorYou have a view of the blue, blue Pacific Ocean. A rainbow almost every morning. What could be a better way to start your morning than swimming with the dolphins! (OK, first you have a fresh fruit smoothie.) Then walk to the beach and jump in; they love to swim with you, as long as you keep a respectful distance. This is an experience beyond belief. To swim within feet of these magnificent creatures will blast your heart chakra open.

Why stay locked up in a stuffy hotel when you can be a part of the scenery!

AMENITIES:  The interior bedroom does have four walls, a king size bed and an armoire.
The kitchen includes: apt. size refrigerator, 2 burner stove (no oven), coffee grinder & maker, toaster, electric tea kettle. All cooking gear, and linens are provided.

NEARBY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

Kehena Beach:  (Walking distance) A clothing optional Black sand beach where the dolphins often frolic in the early morning. Swim with them; they love to swim with you! (Keep a respectful distance) This is an experience beyond belief. To swim within feet of these magnificent creatures will blast your heart chakra open.
Ahalanui State park:  (15 minutes) An exotic, natural warm (90 degrees F) geothermal tide pond. Relax and languish surrounded by coconut trees, and the blue Pacific Ocean. A great place for a picnic.

Kalani Honua Retreat:  (5 minutes) Restaurant (vegetarian), café, yoga and hula classes, massages available.

Kapoho Tidepools:  (20 minutes) Snorkeling and Swimming. “Champagne” warm ponds.

Pahoa Village:  (20 minutes) In Historic Pahoa Town, you can walk on the wooden sidewalks to various quaint stores. No tourist trappings here! The town, a definite step back in time, is quite funky and fun with some of the Islands’ best restaurants: Mexican, Thai, Tuscany Italian, burgers, natural foods, take-out Chinese, and a fresh fish store. Gas, banks, post office.
There is a Sunday Farmer's Market, just outside of town. It sometimes features live music, locally handmade items, and just the people watching is worth the trip. It's as much a social event as a marketplace. Of course, you can also find about every kind of local veggie and fruit, plus a lot of incredibly delicious prepared offerings, too. There are even open-air massages available!

The "Red Road": (You’re on it!) Drive along our pristine stretch of coastline from Kalapana to the bottom of “Hawaiian Beaches Subdivision” ( Kahakai Blvd) This is still “Old time Hawaii” You can feel the “mana”. Puna is rural Hawaii at its best. In Kalapana, go eat lunch at Verna’s; a classic local favorite. From there you can take a short walk over the old lava flow to see the new beach that is forming (not for swimming). It used to be what was called “Kaimu” bay.

Natural Volcanic Steam Vents: (10 minutes) Take a steam bath in a natural geothermal vent! Some days are hotter than others!

Pohoiki, or “Isaac Hale Beach Park”: (15 minutes) Surf’s up! This is the most popular surf spot on this side of the island. Swim, Boogie board, and boat launch.

More Island Attractions

Hilo Town: (45 minutes) A most beautiful town on the bay. Don't miss the Farmers Market every Wednesday
and Saturday. Hilo has many fine art galleries, gift shops, restaurants, cold ponds, and beaches.

Panaewa Zoo: (40 minutes) A beautiful botanical garden as well as wonderful small zoo that provides large enclosures for it’s animals. A white Bengal Tiger, Namaste, is the main attraction, but I’m partial to Casper, the leaping ring tailed lemur.

Volcano National Park: (1 ½ hour) Watch Kiluea, the active volcano, as she flows into the sea, or cascades down the “pali” (cliffs) Go for numerous fantastic hikes, Art Gallery, Restaurant, and general sightseeing adventure. A must-do.
Waipio Valley: (2 hour) Hike down into the past, into the valley where the Hawaiians first landed. Lots of great hikes, suf and swim.

Hawi: (2 ½ hour) A very special artist's community featuring some of the best galleries, quaint shops, and the famous Bamboo Restaurant. Just a bit to the north is the end of the road, at the lovely Pololu Valley lookout, and hike.
